Job description
The opportunity
You'll join a high-performing Unix/Linux Platform Engineering team managing enterprise-scale SAP infrastructure on IBM POWER hardware. This is a critical role at the intersection of day-to-day operations and a major platform transformation — migrating workloads from Oracle/AIX to SAP HANA/SLES. If you thrive in complex, large-scale environments and want your work to have real infrastructure impact, this is the role for you.
Your key responsibilities
- Administer AIX and SLES LPARs on IBM POWER via PowerVM, including VIOS break/fix support
- Patch OS and PowerHA clusters for AIX and SLES; provision and decommission LPARs/VMs
- Support platform migration: IBM Power10 to new target platform, and Oracle/AIX to HANA/SLES replatforming
- Conduct operational DR testing and manage high-availability cluster operations
- Develop automation using POSIX shell scripting, Ansible, and BigFix fixlets
- Support application upgrades across SAP landscapes and ancillary tools (MQSeries, Sterling Integrator, VPSX, etc.)
- Test and document emerging technologies (POWER11, AIX 7.3.x, SLES16, RHEL 9.x on POWER)
- Produce technical documentation and weekly status reports to the platform lead
Skills and attributes for success
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills in complex, multi-platform environments
- Ability to work independently while contributing to a structured, enterprise-level team
- Clear written and verbal communication — comfortable producing documentation and status reports
- Flexible and available for after-hours and weekend on-call support as required
To qualify for the role you must have
- Hands-on AIX 7.x system administration experience
- SLES 15 on IBM POWER — Linux administration in a POWER architecture context
- PowerVM virtualization — LPAR provisioning, management, and troubleshooting
- VIOS (Virtual I/O Server) — administration and break/fix support
- PowerHA SystemMirror for AIX — HA cluster configuration and patching
- POSIX shell scripting — automation and operational tooling
- Active Directory / LDAP integration; Dell/EMC storage infrastructure familiarity
Ideally, you'll also have
Ansible · ServiceNow · Centrify · Autosys · Rubrik · Dynatrace · LPAR2RRD · IBM IPTK/LPM Toolkit · PowerBroker
