Interviews (the average number of interviews is 3 - the number may vary depending on the level of seniority required for the position). During the interviews, you will meet people from our team: your line manager of course, but also other people related to your future role. We will talk in depth about you, your experience, and skills, but also about the position and what will be expected of you. Of course, you will also get to know Amaris: our culture, our roots, our teams, and your career opportunities!

Case study: Depending on the position, we may ask you to take a test. This could be a role play, a technical assessment, a problem-solving scenario, etc.

As you know, every person is different and so is every role in a company.  That is why we have to adapt accordingly, and the process may differ slightly at times. However, please know that we always put ourselves in the candidate's shoes to ensure they have the best possible experience.
We look forward to meeting you!

Job description

We are looking for a Validation Analyst to join our team supporting a high-impact project: the migration of approximately 200 Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) pipelines from the Seven Bridges Genomics platform to an AWS-based solution, leveraging AWS HealthOmics and the DDW data environment. This is a remote position.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and maintain automated test harnesses to ensure reproducible pipeline outputs.
  • Collaborate with subject-matter experts (SMEs) to define acceptance criteria and manage user validation cycles.
  • Perform structured comparisons of outputs (e.g., JSON diffs, VCF concordance) against legacy results.
  • Track defects, perform root cause analysis, and ensure quality gates are met before release.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • 1–5 years of experience in quality assurance (QA) within bioinformatics or other data-heavy scientific environments.
  • Advanced degree in bioinformatics, computational biology, computer science, or a related life-science field (or equivalent practical experience).
  • Hands-on experience validating NGS workflows with a strong understanding of reproducibility and determinism.
  • Familiarity with genomics file formats such as FASTQ, BAM/CRAM, and VCF.
  • Understanding of scientific reproducibility standards and validation practices.
  • Practical experience with AWS services and at least one modern workflow engine.
  • Proficiency in Python and shell scripting; strong Linux fundamentals.
  • Clear documentation skills and ability to work effectively with scientists and engineers.

Technical Skills & Knowledge

  • Cloud & Orchestration: AWS HealthOmics, Batch, Step Functions, S3, IAM, CloudWatch; Kubernetes is a plus.
  • Workflow Engines: Nextflow, CWL, WDL, Cromwell, or similar.
  • Pipelines & Tools: Alignment (short- and long-read), variant calling, expression quantification.
  • High-Performance Computing: Cluster schedulers like Slurm or Sun Grid Engine; experience with cloud execution patterns.
  • Testing & Data Comparison: Python-based frameworks, property-based testing, data diffs, concordance checks, and schema validation.
  • Development Practices: Containerization, version control, code review, CI/CD, infrastructure as code, and secure secret management.

Nice-to-Have / Preferred:

  • Experience validating migrations from Seven Bridges Genomics or similar platforms.
  • Knowledge of single-cell or spatial pipelines and their concordance nuances.
  • Familiarity with GxP standards for software validation in R&D.
  • Experience defining cost and performance budgets and building dashboards to track them.
